Twenty Years After the Fall of Vukovar
The war may be over, and Vukovar may have started to rebuild, but the battle for the truth about what really happened in Croatia during the war is only just beginning. http://croatianchronicle.com/ccn/life/twenty-years-after-the-fall-of-vukovar

St Thomas More's Conscientious Objection
Alongside the legends of a Humanist scholar dying for conscience’s sake and a pious saint dying for his Church, I wish to paint a picture of a man whose rigorous intellectual life gave him an understanding of conscience that would be exemplary. More’s interpretation of conscience, far from being new, was and remains an intrinsic part of the teaching of the Catholic Church. In the context of the Reformation in England, it became a sobering example of the uncompromising nature of Catholicism in the face of its challengers. http://www.connorcourt.com/catalog1/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7&products_id=185&zenid=99f1fc5b30d37fd5265d32ec4646dfb2
The Trial of Generals Ante Gotovina and Mladen Markac
Currently on appeal, the trial of Generals Ante Gotovina and Mladen Markac for their role in Operation Storm (Croatia's recovery of Serb-occupied territory in 1995) was a farce from beginning to end. http://www.onlineopinion.com.au/view.asp?article=12671
Will Justice Prevail?
For those of us who fervently hope that justice will prevail in the wake of the May 14 ICTY Appeals hearing of the cases of Generals Ante Gotovina and Mladen Marka?, it would do us well to remember that twenty-one years of history suggest it will not. http://mishkagora.wordpress.com/2012/05/15/gotovina-2/

'The Arrest of Ratko Mladic...' by Mishka Gora
In 1993, the arrest of General Mladic would have been something to celebrate. In 2011, it is a hollow victory, too little too late, a ritual application of law that cannot deliver true justice but nevertheless must be done. http://www.mercatornet.com/articles/view/the_arrest_of_ratko_mladic_is_a_victory_for_human_dignity/

Freedom of Conscience At Risk in USA
The United States was founded by people who refused to be subservient to the state, who refused to abdicate their right to think for themselves. No state should ever force someone to host something they consider immoral on their private property or to pay for something they believe to wrong – to the contrary, we all have a moral obligation to oppose what we believe to be wrong, even if it means civil disobedience. http://onlineopinion.com.au/view.asp?article=13252
'Dulce et decorum est' by Mishka Gora
Another Australian soldier dies in Afghanistan, and his death is overshadowed by fierce rhetoric. There are the usual obituaries, but a soldier’s death seems to be more a pretext for a foreign policy debate than a time for mourning. In our morally relativist public sphere, where all killing is murder and one death is equated to another, there is an ironic double standard when it comes to human dignity. http://www.mercatornet.com/articles/view/dulce_et_decorum_est/
